Chapter 14

Heaven

Everything from last night was perfect, even the last time Baron made love to me was. If I thought for one minute shower sex would be any less intimate, he proved me wrong. I roll over feeling the blissful ache between my legs reminding me how much of animal Baron truly is. Though, I’d gladly let his hellhound persona out to conquer me again if this is my reward. The smile on my face is no less intense this morning when he tells me he’s going for run. I guess since he hasn’t returned yet, I can get up, grab a cup of coffee and go down to the water.

I step outside and instantly regret my clothing choice. “Fuck this,” I mumble, closing the door heading back to his room. Baron is a logger, surely that means he has warm flannel shirts. “Bingo,” I rejoice taking it off the hanger. It may be three times too big for me, but it’ll keep me warm. I secure the last button as I look in the mirror, laughing. All I need is a belt, and it’d look like it was a dress.

Again, I take my coffee in hand and exit Baron’s cabin. I grin as I confirm his spare key is, as promised, under his welcome mat. He did sheepishly admit it probably wasn’t the smartest place to keep it, but I guess there’s not a huge demand to lock doors here. Not when most of the town has the ability to shift into huge, menacing animals. I smirk envisioning Grace’s expression if she were to ever find out. She’d probably pee herself. I close the door, deciding to leave it unlocked. I can’t imagine doing that in my last home, then again, Aiden would have—

“Nope. Not going there,” I berate myself, Aiden has no place in my thoughts. He’s in the past and for once I’m praying he stays there. Cautiously, I walk down the hill, heading for the water, when I spot a picnic table at the top of the trail with four stacks of neatly folded clothes and boots sitting here. I guess that answers what kind of run he went on this morning.

As I approach the rock I found a few weeks ago, I see a beautiful woman already occupying the seat I was heading for. Quietly, I turn around as to not to disturb her. “You must be Heaven,” she calls out, stopping me.

“Yes, I didn’t mean to disturb you. I can go—”

“Please stay. I’m Megan, Lucas’ girlfriend,” she says as I notice a large bite mark on her neck. It’s obvious it’s been there for a while. Instinctively, she covers it with her hand, smiling. “Well, I might be more than his girlfriend.”

“You’re his mate, right? Forgive my directness, but what are you?”

“So Baron has already told you or shown you what he is, I take it? As for me, I was the only human mate until you showed up. Thank God, I’m not alone anymore,” she laughs.
