Chapter 14
Heaven
Everything from last night was perfect, even the last time Baron made love to me was. If I thought for one minute shower sex would be any less intimate, he proved me wrong. I roll over feeling the blissful ache between my legs reminding me how much of animal Baron truly is. Though, Iâd gladly let his hellhound persona out to conquer me again if this is my reward. The smile on my face is no less intense this morning when he tells me heâs going for run. I guess since he hasnât returned yet, I can get up, grab a cup of coffee and go down to the water.
I step outside and instantly regret my clothing choice. âFuck this,â I mumble, closing the door heading back to his room. Baron is a logger, surely that means he has warm flannel shirts. âBingo,â I rejoice taking it off the hanger. It may be three times too big for me, but itâll keep me warm. I secure the last button as I look in the mirror, laughing. All I need is a belt, and itâd look like it was a dress.
Again, I take my coffee in hand and exit Baronâs cabin. I grin as I confirm his spare key is, as promised, under his welcome mat. He did sheepishly admit it probably wasnât the smartest place to keep it, but I guess thereâs not a huge demand to lock doors here. Not when most of the town has the ability to shift into huge, menacing animals. I smirk envisioning Graceâs expression if she were to ever find out. Sheâd probably pee herself. I close the door, deciding to leave it unlocked. I canât imagine doing that in my last home, then again, Aiden would haveâ
âNope. Not going there,â I berate myself, Aiden has no place in my thoughts. Heâs in the past and for once Iâm praying he stays there. Cautiously, I walk down the hill, heading for the water, when I spot a picnic table at the top of the trail with four stacks of neatly folded clothes and boots sitting here. I guess that answers what kind of run he went on this morning.
As I approach the rock I found a few weeks ago, I see a beautiful woman already occupying the seat I was heading for. Quietly, I turn around as to not to disturb her. âYou must be Heaven,â she calls out, stopping me.
âYes, I didnât mean to disturb you. I can goââ
âPlease stay. Iâm Megan, Lucasâ girlfriend,â she says as I notice a large bite mark on her neck. Itâs obvious itâs been there for a while. Instinctively, she covers it with her hand, smiling. âWell, I might be more than his girlfriend.â
âYouâre his mate, right? Forgive my directness, but what are you?â
âSo Baron has already told you or shown you what he is, I take it? As for me, I was the only human mate until you showed up. Thank God, Iâm not alone anymore,â she laughs.
